Rather than asking you to work out which mounting system or backframe your boat requires, we've already done much of the hard work. Drawing on years of measuring, installing and refining Ultimate Rod Racks across many of New Zealand's most popular boats, we've developed proven configurations to help make choosing the right system easier.

When Ultimate Rod Racks first launched, we quickly discovered there was no such thing as a truly "universal" rod rack.

Different manufacturers use different storage pocket designs, gunwale widths, coaming shapes and mounting angles. Even within the same brand, layouts often change as new models are introduced.

Rather than designing a rack that "almost fits" everything, we designed a modular system that could be configured to suit real boats.

That philosophy became GunnelCore™.

What is GunnelCore™?

GunnelCore™ is the modular mounting platform behind every Ultimate Rod Rack.

Using interchangeable backframes and mounting configurations, GunnelCore™ allows us to match your rod rack to the characteristics of your boat, creating a secure, stable and integrated installation.

Typical configurations accommodate:

✔ Angled pockets and stepped gunwales

✔ Deep box-section and bulb-shaped pockets

✔ Painted interiors and custom finishes

Real Boats Aren't Always Identical

Boat manufacturers are constantly refining their designs.

Storage pockets change. Interior layouts evolve. Gunwale profiles are updated. Sometimes two boats carrying the same model name can still require slightly different configurations.

That's why we don't simply rely on a dropdown menu and send a generic product.

Every order is individually reviewed using both the information you provide and our growing database of proven boat configurations.

If we need additional information, we'll contact you before manufacturing.

If we get it wrong...

Our Fitment Guarantee

We're not interested in supplying a rod rack that "almost fits."

We're committed to supplying a rod rack system that works properly for your boat.

Should your configuration require adjustment, we'll work with you to identify the most appropriate solution. In many cases, this simply involves supplying an alternative GunnelCore™ backframe or configuration component, allowing you to retain your existing rack body.

Every GunnelCore™ backframe is manufactured from marine-grade aluminium and supplied with a clear Nyalic protective coating as standard.

For owners wanting a more integrated appearance, we also offer an optional powder-coated backframe that matches the rod rack body for a clean factory-style finish.
