Every Great Rod Rack Starts with Gunnel Pocket Geometry
Most people never think about the shape of their boat's gunnel pockets.
To us, they're where every engineering project begins.
Every manufacturer creates a different combination of:
- Gunnel pocket angle
- Gunnel pocket depth
- Supporting surfaces
- Coaming profile
- Gunnel height
- Hull or pontoon geometry
Collectively, we refer to this as the boat's gunnel pocket geometry.

The Senator Engineering Challenge
During our development work across numerous Senator models, one characteristic became immediately obvious.
Many RH Series boats feature angled gunnel pockets that lean toward the transom.
It's an excellent design that contributes to the boat's overall structure and functionality.
However, it also creates a challenge for removable rod rack systems.
A conventional mounting bracket naturally follows the angle of the gunnel pocket.
That means the rod rack also leans backwards.
The rods lean backwards.
The loads are transferred differently.
While a universal bracket may technically fit, it isn't working with the boat's geometry.
We believed there was a better way.
GunnelCore™ Technology Led to the SLR™
Rather than forcing the boat to suit our rod rack, we redesigned the mounting system to suit the boat.
Using GunnelCore™ Technology, we developed two purpose-designed components that work together.
The first is the SLR™ (Silverback Low Rider) Back Frame.
Its role is to create a strong mechanical interface with Senator's angled gunnel pockets, locating securely within the boat while distributing loads through the supporting surfaces.
The second is our angled mounting bracket.
Rather than mounting the rod rack directly to the back frame, the angled bracket positions the rod rack at its intended operating angle, providing the ideal balance between rod storage, stability and appearance.
Neither component performs the other's job.
The SLR™ is engineered around the boat.
The angled mounting bracket is engineered around the rod rack.
Together they create a complete aftermarket mounting solution that works with Senator's unique gunnel pocket geometry.

These boats are generally well suited to the Hybrid™ Back Frame, although the ideal configuration can vary depending on the individual layout and accessories fitted.
