At first glance, many aluminium fishing boats appear remarkably similar.
They all have gunnels.
They all have factory gunnel pockets.
They all carry fishing rods.
But once you begin designing premium aftermarket rod storage systems, you quickly discover that no two manufacturers engineer their boats exactly the same.
Some boats have deep gunnel pockets.
Others have shallow profiles.
Some are perfectly vertical.
Others lean at an angle.
Some include strengthening ribs or stepped profiles.
Others use completely different supporting surfaces.
These small differences may only measure a few millimetres, but they can dramatically affect how a rod rack mounts, how loads are transferred and how stable the entire system becomes.
At Ultimate Rod Racks, we refer to these characteristics as a boat's Gunnel Pocket Geometry.
Understanding that geometry is where every Ultimate Rod Rack begins.

Rather than producing one universal mounting bracket and hoping it fits every boat, we developed our own engineering philosophy.
We call it GunnelCore™ Technology.

As our product range grew, so did the number of boats we supported.
Customers would often ask:

The answer wasn't always as simple as choosing a 3, 5 or 7 Rod Rack.
The rod rack might remain the same.
The mounting system often didn't.
Rather than expecting customers to understand different back frames, angled mounting brackets and gunnel pocket geometry, we decided to simplify the process.

Stabicraft®
During development, we discovered the distinctive strengthening bevel built into many Stabicraft® gunnel pockets.
Our original Hybrid™ Back Frame worked well, but by redesigning it from a 20mm profile to today's 34mm Hybrid™, we created a lower installation, improved mechanical fit and a cleaner overall appearance.
The boat taught us how to make the product better.
Senator®
Many Senator® RH Series boats introduced a completely different challenge.
Their angled gunnel pocket geometry inspired the development of our SLR™ (Silverback Low Rider) Back Frame, working together with our purpose-designed angled mounting bracket.
Together they create a stronger, lower and more integrated aftermarket solution engineered around Senator's unique design.
