Ultimate Rod Racks actually began on a Stabicraft.
The original rack was designed and built for a friend who wanted a rod storage solution that didn't require drilling holes in his boat. That first prototype became the foundation for what is now the GunnelCore™ System and has since evolved through years of customer feedback and real-world use across hundreds of boats throughout New Zealand and Australia.

Engineered Around the Stabicraft Pocket Design
Stabicraft storage pockets feature a high-set position, narrow entry and distinctive bulb-shaped base. Rather than relying on clamps or permanent fasteners, the GunnelCore™ Hybrid System has been engineered specifically to work with these design features.
By combining the natural angles of the Stabicraft storage pocket with the correctly sized GunnelCore™ backframe and premium marine-grade EVA padding, the system creates a secure Mechanical Friction Fit™.
This engineered mounting method distributes pressure evenly throughout the pocket, producing a firm, rattle-free installation without drilling or permanently modifying your boat.
The result is a rod rack that remains secure in rough conditions while still being fully removable whenever required. It can be swapped from one side of the boat to the other, transferred between compatible boats, or quickly removed and stored safely in the cabin when conditions or circumstances require—all without drilling or permanent modification.
For owners wanting a factory-style appearance, an optional powder-coated backframe is available to complement the painted interiors found on many modern Stabicraft models.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I need to drill holes in my Stabicraft?
No. The GunnelCore™ System has been engineered to create a secure Mechanical Friction Fit™ using the existing Stabicraft storage pockets. No drilling or permanent modification is required.
Will it fit older Stabicraft models?
Many older models are compatible. Simply provide your exact boat model when ordering and we'll configure the most suitable system.
Can I move the rack to another boat?
Yes. If your second boat uses a compatible storage pocket design, your Ultimate Rod Rack can often be transferred using the appropriate GunnelCore™ backframe.
Can I trailer my boat with rods in the rack?
Many customers do. We recommend ensuring rods are correctly secured and that transport arrangements are appropriate for the road conditions and the skipper's judgement.
